Works great for subtle automation. Holding shift to fine tune works for the jog wheel too. I find this necessary when adjusting groove and velocity stuff. - When you’re wanting to automate knobs, you have to press record and THEN touch the knob. If you hit record while already touching the knob it won’t record. - Easiest way to copy then paste a pattern for new variations is to always be in the last pattern slot. That way you can just hit copy, press down arrow to go to empty slot, then paste and write. - You can move instrument positions on the pads, by holding and dragging the instrument name on the mixer page - The above becomes necessary when you want to use the erase tool while playing the touchpad scale to punch in record or continuously jam until the loop is just right. Not very ergonomic if the Pad you’re erasing is right below the touchpad. - Don’t forget that the settings for the send fx can be tweaked in the pattern menu. - Most of the menu options can be selected by double tapping and then choosing from a little pop up menu **To Chain Patterns** wim shares this tip about chaining patterns; - Turn Chain Mode on under Settings - Under Pattern, set the pattern you want to chain to under Chain To - Optionally set the number of times you want the pattern to loop before chaining with "Chain Repeat" ** Wavetable Tips ** In the Files app, place Serum-compatible wavetables directly into Groove Rider's Wave folder. Do not put them in subfoders. **Slicing Tips.** Here are some slicing tips from @rs2000: * Hit TRIGGER, tap on a part (pad) you want to put the sliced loop on. * Hit Oscillator > WAVE, in the left LCD column scroll down to "User" and choose either a factory loop or "Load from AudioShare" on the bottom. * Tap SLICE twice to see the whole breakbeat waveform. * Hit the different pads and you'll see that each pad is set to play one of sixteen pre-set slices. If they're good, you're done already. If you want to move them, my personal fastest way is: * Enable SHIFT lock by tap-dragging the SHIFT button downwards or upwards (will flash yellow) * hit each pad, roughly change "SLICE START" (and END if you like) * On the waveform display, tap and drag your finger down to the max (max. zoom level) * Hit each pad again and fine-tune if necessary. The display will automatically move to the point you're adjusting. Another tip for creating a step sequence with slices: * On a sliced part (TRIGGER > hit the pad to select it), hit SEQ > EDIT, then SLICE. * Now you can tap on the step to edit with your left finger and hit the pad you want there with your right finger. * Being able to "scroll" through the slice sequence and change each step fast and easily is one of the many hidden gems in Groove Rider. **Tip for enhanced song arranging using Xequence 2** * Part I: Recording the MIDI * Turn Virtual MIDI Out: On in GR-16 * Set MIDI in Mode: Poly in GR-16 * Enable MIDI In and select GR-16 in Xequence 2 * Load both GR-16 and Xequence 2 into AudioBus (routing isn’t important. This is just for synchronized app start.) * Turn Link Link Start/Stop on in and Audiobus and Xequence 2. Turn Link on in GR-16. * Turn Multi-Track recording on in GR-16 (the icon next to the record button). * Unmute all parts in GR-16. * Press record in Xequence 2. All parts should get added to Xequence 2. Press stop when enough has been recorded. * Part II: Playing back the MIDI * //Disable// Link Start/Stop in Xequence 2. (This is to prevent Xequence 2 from starting Audiobus and GR-16 when you press play in Xequence 2. You don’t want GR-16 to play back its own patterns, but to respond to Xequence 2’s MIDI instead.) * For each track created in Xequence 2 you now need to set the output to GR-16 and to the appropriate channel. A Xequence 2 project that is already set up with all 16 channels is available to use as a template on PatchStorage.com. https://patchstorage.com/xequence-2-grooverider-gr-16-patch/ * When you play back the recorded tracks, GR-2 will respond to the MIDI coming from Xequence 2. * Now you can cut, loop, duplicate and arrange the song in Xequence 2. ===== Audiobus Forum Threads of Note ===== There are quite a few GR-16 discussions on the Audiobus Forum here are a few in which there is some gold buried: * GR-16 Tips and Tricks * GR-16 Released.
